FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Should I contract a Videographer or a Photographer?
A: This is an often asked question. My answer is both. Photography and Videography are totally different. Photography catches an instant moment in time, Videography catches that same moment in length with sound. They were never meant to compete, but rather complement. You will have two totally different forms of art.

Q: Should I contract with a Wedding Service Company?
A: Our opinion is no. Many companies sub-contract services out and receive a dividend to do so. Your way ahead doing your own contracting with individual merchants. Chances are if a company offers Photo/Video/DJ/Limo/Wedding Cake they may have expertise in only one, or maybe none. For the same reason, we would not suggest contracting video through a photographer. Why? because they are totally different. We would not think offering Photography because our expertise is in Video Production, and that has taken us years to perfect.

Q: Do we have to wear wireless mics?
A: The only "in front of camera" subjects that use wireless mics, are weather reporters and field news casters. Why? because they want all other ambient sound out of the program except their voice. When was the last cinema movie you saw that had voice-only? This is typical of the wireless mic used at ceremonies. There is no mix of sound. Nigh Video prefers to use High Grade "Shot-Gun Mics". The shot-gun mic records in a very narrow path from the cam to the subject, but allows a little more ambient sound from the surrounding area to make it more natural. Your vows will be clear and audible without sounding like you are right on top of the mic. The shot-gun mic is cam mounted. Wireless mics on the other hand are clipped to the lapel, allowing for the pickup of loud ruffling of flowers, coughs, sneezes, and any whispering that is meant to be private!

Q: One or Two Videographers?
A: Actually, one is enough. An extra stationary cam from a different viewpoint (usually wide angle) is ideal. However, there isn't an equal amount of footage from that cam used in final edit, whether there is a videographer standing behind the cam or not. Many video companies offer an extra videographer at an added cost. So don't pay for an extra videographer, it's not worth it. Nigh Video uses an extra stationary cam at your request... at no extra cost!

Q: Why do other companies sell different video packages?
A: We don't know either! Photographers need to use packages. Obviously they have an array of different sized prints, different albums at different prices, so it makes it a little easier for the consumer to choose what fits their budget. Our video production is called "A Wedding Story" (c). It is shot and edited in a story and film-like format. It has an introduction, a plot and a conclusion (editing, music-mixing, titling and special effects all-inclusive). It is our belief that segmenting this video story to introduce a packaged-based marketing model would ruin the integrity of your day.
